OAK BROOK EXTENDS ITS POLO SEASON FOR
"TEAM UP FOR TONY SEKERA" BENEFIT POLO MATCH
SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2017
This Sunday, September 17th at 12:00 PM, the Oak Brook Polo Club has extended its season to host a Benefit Polo Tournament in honor of our friend and fellow teammate, Tony Sekera. In early June, during a solo stick and ball practice, Tony suffered a devastating spinal cord injury that has left him thus far paralyzed below his shoulders. As a result, Tony will need permanent 24/7 medical care.
The benefit polo tournament will kick-off on Saturday, September 16th at 12:00 PM at Due West (111. Simmons Rd., Oswego, IL 60543) with four participating teams. The matches are as follows:
Match #1 @ 12:00 PM
Due West vs. Barrington
Due West – Matt Sekera, Charles Todd, Clifton Yandel, Shannon Eldridge (Sat) and Tracy Riff (Sun)
Barrington – Juan Martin Gutierrez, Bob Apitz, Mason Phelps and Adrienne Purvis
Match #2 @ 1:00 PM
Zeralda vs. Windridge
Zeralda – Samantha Falbe, Matias Obregon, TJ Montgomery, Jennifer Leffingwell Leuders
Windridge – Bob McMurtry, Chris Vangel, Sebastian Barba/ Randy Caldwell, Tucker Reback (Sat) and Bill O’Leary (Sun)
The results of Saturday’s matches will be played at Oak Brook Polo Club (2606 York Rd., Oak Brook, IL 60523) on Sunday, September 17th beginning with the Consolation Match at 1:00 PM followed by the Championship Match. All matches are four (4) chukkers in length. Gates open to the public at 12:00 PM.
The all-tailgate event will allow attendees to pull-up their vehicles to view the match from the sidelines. Tailgate spots are $30 per vehicle and general parking is $10 per vehicle for non-tailgate spots. There will be NO lawn seating available. All proceeds collected from the benefit match will be given to the Sekera family for Tony Sekera’s long-term care and intensive therapy. Cash and check donations will be collected at the polo match. Checks can be made out to Anton Sekera. For those who cannot attend but still wish to donate, The Sekera family has set up a GoFundMe page. Your donation will help offset the out of pocket expenses for Tony's ongoing day-to-day care.
There will be no food or beverage service vendors onsite or bleacher or tented seating. We encourage all attendees to bring their own food and beverage (including alcohol), chairs, blankets, tents, tables, etc. No open flame grilling will be allowed.
During Sunday’s polo matches at the Oak Brook Polo Club, there will be a tailgate contest and tailgaters are encouraged to create and display your best polo themed tailgate with friends and family. There will be awards for the following categories: best food, best design, best party and best overall tailgate
Sunday’s Team Up For Tony Sekera Benefit Polo Match is supported in part by Polo Players Support Group, Inc., an organization firmly established and actively engaged in providing financial assistance to seriously injured or ill polo players and grooms.
