U.S.A. DEFEATS ARGENTINA 13-12 TO WIN THE 2020 USPA BUTLER INTERNATIONAL CUP

Oak Brook Polo Club and Chicago Polo Association hosted its last match of the 2020 summer polo season on Sunday, September 27th with the finals of the USPA Butler International Cup presented by Merrill Lynch.   In front of a sold out and socially distanced crowd, the United States defeated Argentina 13-12, in the finals of the ten-day tournament where teams representing the United States, Argentina, Germany and Switzerland have been competing for a chance to engrave their name on the prestigious cup.  

ARGENTINA LEADS IN THE 2020 BUTLER INTERNATIONAL CUP TOURNAMENT

Sunday, September 20th marked the halfway point of the 2020 USPA Butler International Cup where four teams representing four countries have been competing to determine who will play in the final match on Sunday, September 27th.  Argentina is currently in the lead of the United States, Germany, and Switzerland. Results and remaining schedule of the 2020 USPA Butler International Cup are as follows:

POLO TEAMS FROM FOUR COUNTRIES COMPETE IN 2020 BUTLER INTERNATIONAL CUP

The Oak Brook Polo Club will end its 98th Season with the prestigious Butler International Cup, presented by Merrill Lynch.  A preliminary match is scheduled for Sunday, September 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Brook, in place of the Cecil Smith Cup, and the final match will take place on Sunday, September 27th at 3:00 p.m.   This famous trophy was first played in 1986 between Oak Brook and HRH Prince Charles’s Wales Polo Team in front of a crowd of more than 20,000 people. The trophy was re-established in 2015 and has since hosted teams from India, Jamaica and Great Britain.  

"TEAM UP FOR TONY" BENEFIT RAISES $50,000+

On Sunday, August 30th, Oak Brook Polo hosted the 4th Annual “Team Up For Tony” Benefit which successfully raised $50,000 to support fellow teammate Tony Sekera, who suffered a devastating polo accident in June 2017. The “double-header” polo match began with the 4-Goal USPA Master’s Cup Finals between Elk Grove-Sanfilippo and Brinker Hill Farm and was followed by the 8-Goal USPA Sportsmanship Cup Finals between Oak Brook and Morgan Creek-Good Thunder.  Both matches were presented by Lithoprint & Hinsdale Living Magazine and played at the Prince of Wales Field to a sold-out crowd.
