JUNE 13TH, 2019

Oak Brook Polo kicked off its 97th season against Passion for Polo on Sunday, June 9th at the Prince of Wales Field in Oak Brook, Illinois. The highly anticipated match, which Oak Brook lost 14-11, brought out a record crowd of over 650 attendees and featured the popular "Horses & Horsepower" Ferrari and Sports Car Rally on the field prior to start time. Continental AutoSports Ferrari and members of the Ferrari Club of America and Classic Car Club of America had their vehicles on display prior to the match as attendees arrived. Hundreds of spectators turned out for Sunday's event despite unfavorable weather all week. Guests of the match were welcome with an on-field Ferrari and Sports Car Rally. As many as 30 new and vintage Ferraris were on display and participated in polo festivities, including the the opening parade featuring anthem singer Brook Kuchuris.

The Oak Brook Polo Team featured Owner and Captain, Jim Drury (Hcap 0) and players Horacio Onetto (Hcap 4), Tomas "Toto" Obregon (Hcap-4) and Mariano Obregon (Hcap 4).   The Passion For Polo Team included Owner and Captains, Frauke Leuders (Hcap 0) and Jan-Dirk Leuders (Hcap 0), and players Anthony Garcia (Hcap 5), and Mariano Obregon (Hcap 7). Obregon played for Daily Racing Forum, who won the 2019 U.S. Open Polo Championship. 

Sean Rudy of Continental AutoSports presented Horses & Horsepower Trophy to the Passion For Polo team. Joanne Ahern Aawarded “Best Playing Pony” to “Panderilla” ridden by Frauke Leuders and MVP went to Mariano Obregon of Passion For Polo.

 

2019 marked Oak Brook Polo Club's 97th season as one of the nation's oldest polo clubs in operation today and fourth oldest sports property in Chicago.
